Additional training.
Leading up to the next grading weekend in March, Ric
has offered us the opportunity to squeeze in some extra
training sessions at Stratford, specifically centred
around our grading syllabus.
So far there are 2 dates for your diary:
- Friday 25th January 19:30 - 21:30
(that's this coming Friday!)
- Friday 22nd February time: TBA
(subject to change due to availability)
Please let Ric know if you are able to attend so he
has an idea of numbers.

Christmas Meal. After
counting the votes Ric has announced that this years
Christmas meal will be held on the 1st of December at
Queans, the same venue as last year. If you haven't

As those who attended last years meal will no doubt
agree, the food at Queans is excellent and the service
is brilliant so don't miss out. Everyone is welcome;
please let Ric know if you intend to come so we have

Reiki Share. Jan has asked
me to inform everyone of the upcomming Reiki share session

25th Anniversary Session.
On behalf of the members of Stratford Phoenix Aikido,
past and present, I would like to forward our congratulations
and thanks to Sensei Ric Costigan on reaching his 25th
Anniversary as a Dan Grade. Also many thanks to those
who were able to attend tonights session. It was a brilliant
turnout and a great show of support for our devoted
Sensei. A great evening of Aikido, Beer and Curry! Please
keep you eyes on the Gallery page where there will soon
be pictures posted of the evenings training session.
Dan Grading Course. We hope to see
another good turnout this weekend for the Dan Gradings
at the Coventry Dojo. The course will commence on Friday
night, continue on Saturday and then the gradings will
be on Sunday followed by drinks and a meal. Please note
that this comming Monday there will not be a session
at Stratford due to the weekend of Aikido at Coventry.
Good luck to Dan and Shanelle who have been given the
opportunity to take their Green Belt Grading on Friday
due to their impending move back to Australia in October.
We hope to see as many members of SPA as possible to
offer them support. |

Reiki Share. Reiki Share
sessions are scheduled for the first friday of each month
from 7:45 - 8:45pm at Phoenix Aikido and Fitness Club,
149 Broad Lane, Coventry CV5 7AP. Suitable for all levels
of experience including beginners.

This coming weekend we are looking forward
to a visit from Sensei Gwynne Jones, 8th dan. The course
will run Saturday and Sunday at the Coventry dojo and,
judging by his sessions at Crystal Palace and the BAB
course, we should be in for a treat! We hope to see you
all there. |

this week after 3 weeks exploring Canada and The Rockies
with his wife Jan. We had a great time with our guest

Many congratulations to John Dixon for
doing us proud and completing the London Marathon in aid
of McMillan Cancer Support. It was certainly a challenge
battling the temperature, especially wearing full aikido
attire including Gi and Hakama. Well done John!! |

Thanks to all who made it to the annual
Lowestoft course over the weekend, namely Andy, Veronika,
John and Paul. By all accounts it seems a good time was
had by all, on and off the mat. We look forward to seeing

Sensei Grev Cooke treated us to a great
session tonight, full of interesting technical advice
on basic movements, very helpful and much appreciated
by all. Amongst other things I think everyone was surprised
to be demonstrating 2-man randori just 15 minutes into
the class, as well as being treated to paper cutting with
a live blade, brilliant fun - thank you! Monday will be
Rics first session back on the mat after his and Jan's
holiday which no doubt everyone is looking forward to,
see you all there. |

Brad's session tonight was enjoyed by all,
again some really interesting variations and self defence
techniques, thanks for 2 great sessions. The last
'guest sensei session' this Wednesday will be taken by
Sensei Grev Cooke - something we are all looking forward

weapon movements and some great teaching, thanks extended
by all. Monday's session is due to be taken by Brad in
